Join Our Virtual Walk!

Walk, run, step, dance or whatever you like, in support of palliative care and bereavement support for people living in Markham, Stouffville and Thornhill!

Open from March 21st until April 24th, you can join up and get sponsors or create a team to raise money for bereavement counselling and support in your community.

What’s happening? While we cannot physically come together for our annual memorial dove release and walk, we can still connect virtually! Evergreen Hospice is asking people in the community to join us, virtually, to remember the special people in their own families who have died, while passing the care forward to people who will need bereavement support in the coming year.

Walk on your own or create a team! Evergreen clients, their families, local businesses and others in the community can register teams to participate virtually, while maintaining physical distancing. This is also a great event to do as a family.

Raffle Prize:
Basket of activities and crafts for kids and families

Participate in our scavenger hunt. Download the list of items here. Take photos of each item on the list and when you are done, send them to info@evgcares.org to receive your raffle prize ticket. Start hunting early because the list is quite long! A great family or team activity!

Access our printable (PDF) walk brochure to manually write down your sponsors or, create your own virtual fundraising page and send your donors there to pledge their support using one of our two online options:

SimplyK (no administrative fees charged to Evergreen) Be sure to select “Fundraise” to set up your own fundraising page.**

**The platform gives you the option to add a tip to help SimplyK continue to provide this service at no cost to charities. FYI – no receipt is given for the tip amount. If you don’t want to add a tip, when in the section called “confirm your donation” just select “Other” in the drop-down menu (click on the little triangle shaped down arrow) and enter $0 under “tip amount”. Read instruction FAQs here first.

Canadahelps.org (this organization charges 5.5% fee on every donation to this event through their portal)

We will wrap up the walk on Saturday, April 24th with a Virtual Memorial at 4:30pm. Register with Zoom in advance for this event here. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the event.

The deadline for participating in our walk is April 24th, 2021. The deadline for submission of donations is May 30, 2021. Submit your paper forms with your sponsors’ cheques (payable to Evergreen Hospice) to our office at 5762 Hwy 7 E, Markham, ON L3P 1A8.

**Anyone wishing to support this event directly may make a donation through the above methods without registering to walk.

What can you do virtually? Walk around your neighbourhood, dance, skip rope, climb the stairs for 30 minutes. Do a little, if that’s what you can manage, or do a lot to challenge yourself and others. Use the links below to find great places to walk in your comunity.

You can also challenge family, friends, neighbours and co-workers to join you. Show the world that now, more than ever, our connections matter. “Pass the care forward” to others in need.

Why participate? To honour the memory of a loved one who has died while providing funds to carry on the services for other bereaved families. This year participants can also acknowledge the efforts and sacrifices of frontline workers who are working within a COVID- 19 environment.
