Connection Café – Games Galore Club

The Evergreen Connection Café Games Galore Club will meet the first Monday of every month from 1:30pm to 3:00pm. We will meet to play games and discuss fun activities.

All Connection Café Clubs are here to help people looking for social activities and community events in addition to providing interest-based activities to those who attend. They are open to clients,volunteers, staff, and community members – everyone! These clubs are not support groups – just a way to connect people.

Connection Café  – Walking Club

The Evergreen Connection Café Walking Club will meet the 2nd Monday of each month from 10:00am to 12:00pm. 

Walks will take part on the trails around Evergreen Hospice and be approximately 1-2 hours in length. We have done our best to ensure washroom access and easy trail options, with spots to rest, but please ensure that you are well enough to walk. We urge you to seek the advice of a physician before beginning any physical exercise activity. Your participation in this club requires registration, meeting Evergreen’s Covid-19 policies and procedures, an awareness of your fitness to participate, and an understanding that any physical activity carries a risk of injury. It is your responsibility to ensure you don’t exceed your limits and inform volunteer, staff, or other participants if you begin to feel unwell during the activity. You will be required to give Evergreen an emergency contact.

All Connection Café Clubs help people looking for social activities and community events in addition to providing interest-based activities to those who attend. They are open to clients, volunteers, staff, and community members – everyone! These clubs are not support groups – just a way to connect people.

Connection Café  – Book Discussion Club

The Evergreen Connection Café Book Discussion Club will meet the third Friday of every month from 11:00am to 12:30pm via Zoom. 

We will discuss books that focus on self-care, grief, and other healthcare related topics. There will not be a specific book for everyone to read, instead it will be more of a reference library for those interested in finding their next book and/or recommending and discussing one they have found to be helpful on their journey.

We will provide a space to work on whatever you are creating, whether that be knitting, scrapbooking, sketching, writing or other creative activity. Members will provide guidance and support to each other.

Coping with the Holidays and Family Celebrations after a loved one has died

Thursday, September 29 at 7:00pm

Holidays and family celebrations can be a difficult time after a loved one has died. In these sessions Evergreen will provide you with strategies to help cope with holidays during a period of grieving. There will also be a memorial component.

This is open to Everyone = Volunteers, Staff, Clients, and Community.

An Evening to Treasure Gala

Calling all treasure hunters! X marks the spot of the Gala of the year, with your chance to find the buried treasure. 

Held at Angus Glen Golf Club, guests may participate in a treasure hunt, as well as enjoying the amazing food, live and silent auctions, music and dancing. We can’t wait to see you there!


A Different Kind of Grief – Loss of a Child and Grief in Children

Tuesday, October 25 from 12:30-2:00pm

Evergreen would like to invite you to meet Bonnie Strand, one of our Counsellors, on Tuesday, October 25 from 12:30PM-2:00PM. 

Bonnie will lead us in a discussion about why the death of a child is a unique grief and how we can best support those in our lives who are bereaved parents. She will also look at how children grieve and how best to support a child who is grieving.

This session is open to volunteers, staff, clients, and our community (Everyone).

Registration is required. We will have a limited amount of in person spots and we will be offering it online through Zoom as well.

Power of Attorney and Last Will and Testament

Join us Tuesday, November 8th and Tuesday, November 29th at 2:00PM, for a two-part Power of Attorney and Last Will and Testament information session presented by Martin Franssen of the Durham Regional Police.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers

Free 6-week workshop for caregivers beginning on January 10, 2023

The “Powerful Tools for Caregivers Workshop” teaches skills to help you manage the day-to-day challenges of caregiving. The workshop provides you with tools, to increase your self-care and confidence, helping you handle difficult situations, emotions and decisions. 

The workshop runs for six consecutive weeks for 1.5 hours and is led by trained leaders who themselves have experience as caregivers. The workshops are free and run in communities throughout the region. 

 Topics Include: 

  • Developing a self-care “Tool Box” 
  • Identifying and reducing personal stress 
  • Communicating feelings, needs and concerns 
  • Dealing with emotions such as anger, guilt and depression 
  • Mastering caregiving decisions. 

Weekly Zoom Meetings on Tuesdays January 10, 17, 24, 31, February 7, 14, from 12:00pm-1:30pm.
